Murals
Murals
A collection of hand-painted murals designed and installed by ALSO DEPT. You read that right, we paint most of these bad boys ourselves. Whether it's in the lobby of a new restaurant or on a swing stage eight stories up, we do it all. And we likely know more about OSHA than your electrician uncle.
As an art practice, we make it a point to continue making work for ourselves, whether that's a wall in Wynwood or a mural festival in Detroit, Durham, Nashville, or San Antonio. In addition, our studio partners with developers and brands on commissioned large-scale work, balancing our own style with a client’s brief.
Sentral Wynwood - Miami, FL
Sentral Wynwood is an extended stay residence and hotel in the heart of Miami’s most art-centric district. We were commissioned by Sentral to create a mural on the rooftop surface just below the pool deck.
Inspired by the motion, energy, and nature of Miami, we took the opportunity to work with new mediums and textures to add layers of vibrancy and interest to the work. Our giant abstract ocean titled, Here Comes the Wave Again, was painted with everything from sprayers and rollers to found objects like palm fronds, old brooms, and mops.

The Row - Raleigh, NC
Inspired by the surrounding nature and foliage found in Dorothea Dix Park, we partnered with the team at Kane Realty to design and install a series of large-scale murals across the property at The Row, part of the new Rockway development in Raleigh, NC. This was our largest installation to date, spanning the entire exterior entry facade, rooftop patio, and interior lounge spaces.

Bright Walls Mural Festival - Jackson, MI
We were invited to join over 20 other artists from around the world to paint in the week-long mural festival, Bright Walls.
Our piece titled Rollover Vacation Days, combined two-dimensional mural painting with interactive objects built on-site. The 3D art objects, plywood sculptures, benches, and house plants turned the entire alley-way into an immersive environment inspired by a psychedelic vacation.
60’ x 14’ - 840 square feet - spray paint, acrylic latex, cinder blocks, plywood, terra-cotta pots, majesty palms, and lemon lime dracaena
Maker’s Alley - Raleigh, NC
Just outside the doors of Channel House sits Makers Alley—a home for hyper-local purveyors and artisans, located in Raleigh’s North Hills Innovation District. We partnered with Kane Realty to create a vibrant, abstract landscape titled Three Pointer at the Buzzer by the Creek. At over eight stories high, the mural is an anchor to the entire district.

Artville Walls - Nashville, TN
In 2022, our team co-founded, produced, and participated in Artville Walls mural festival. Our piece features images and icons from our childhood memories—many of which are eerily similar, despite growing up over 600 miles apart. Inspired by our shared love of sports, music, pop culture, and video games, this collaborative mural, titled Blockbuster, Burnquist, Boomshakalaka, collages abstract shapes and crude illustrations while exploring the nostalgia and shared experiences of our 90s childhoods.

In addition, we also developed a nationwide program for the art and graphics across all Grainger distribution centers. Archival photography, environmental brand graphics, and local murals were delivered in a scalable and replicable playbook for rollout.
